Light therapy, also known as LED therapy, can be used to treat various skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, rosacea and post-procedure inflammation.

What is it?
LED stands for light-emitting diode, which refers to the type of light source and the energy that it emits. LED lights are used for illumination because they save energy, but they are also safe to use on the body for treatments of various health conditions.

What skin conditions does it treat?

Blue and red light therapy are recommended for treatment of the following conditions:

  • Psoriasis
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Inflammation and redness of the skin after procedures

How does light therapy work?

The conditions we use light therapy for (acne, rosacea, psoriasis, etc) all have one thing in common: inflammation of the skin. The wavelength of LED light targets inflammation under the skin and calms it down. Blue light therapy targets the bacteria associated with acne, while red light targets the inflammation under the skin associated with acne, psoriasis, and rosacea. Reducing such inflammation also makes light therapy an effective post-procedure treatment; when the skin is red and inflamed after laser treatments, facials, or other treatments, light therapy can be used to calm it down. We offer light therapy treatments as enhancements to our spa services so our clients have less downtime after procedures.

How many treatments do people need?

Light therapy is recommended in a series of treatments. Depending on the condition, approximately six treatments can be recommended for acne or rosacea (one per month), while other conditions like psoriasis may require more frequent treatments. Due to the frequency of treatments for psoriasis, home devices are available. Our Celluma LED machine can be used on different areas of the body, including the face, back, arms, legs, or chest.
