What is it?
Microdermabrasion is a type of facial treatment that improves acne breakouts along with acne scarring, helps to fade brown spots and uneven pigmentation, decreases fine lines and wrinkles, and enhances skin tone. It is a safe and controlled method of skin resurfacing and effective for a wide range of skin types.
How is it performed?
The procedure is performed by an esthetician who utilizes mechanical exfoliation to remove dead skin and stimulate cell renewal. The superficial layers of skin are treated with a hand-held tool that uses exfoliating crystals, simultaneously stimulating the skin with a suction. What is unique about our treatment is that after your treatment, we apply a masque or a peel customized to your skin’s needs which then penetrates more effectively on the newly resurfaced skin.
Will it hurt?
Microdermabrasion is not painful. After the treatment, it is normal to have some redness especially around areas that were treated multiple times. The redness is similar to an after-workout flush, which should disappear within the hour.
Avoid microdermabrasion if:
- The skin is red or irritated, due to skin conditions such as inflammatory acne or rosacea.
- You have recently had a chemical peel.
- You use retinoid medications because it can cause skin irritation or darkening of the skin. Discontinue use 3-5 days prior to treatment.
After treatment care:
It is important to wear sunscreen with SPF of 30 or more daily. Stay out of the sun for 3-5 days. Mild crusting can occur and is normal.
