What is Microneedling?

Microneedling combined with collagen induction therapy is a minimally invasive method of addressing acne scarring and pitting, injury and surgical scars, skin discoloration, mild rosacea, fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. This method uses fine needles to puncture the skin and stimulate natural collagen production. The small injuries incurred by the skin are effectively patched by the natural rush of collagen, thereby improving your skin texture without the involvement of chemicals or surgical methods.

How Does Microneedling Work?

As the microneedling device stamps over your skin, it creates micro-point punctures, most of which temporarily push your pores open. The body perceives this as damage and stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger collagen and elastin production. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process.

What to Expect

Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 20-30 minutes, depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Before the procedure starts, a topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin to ensure a comfortable experience.

After the skin is numbed, the technician gently moves the microneedling device over your skin to puncture the epidermal layers of the skin and create minuscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition, which may last up to a year but close within less than an hour.

Results of Microneedling

After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed like a mild sunburn. You will also experience tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the treated area. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatment, and within the next 24 hours, the skin will be completely healed. After three days, there is barely any evidence that the procedure has occurred.

The process of microneedling skin remodeling can continue for months after each session. Results can be seen within a week or even a few days. Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with a little microneedling stimulation, changes can be dramatic and fast. The best results can be achieved in 6-8 weeks. While results can be seen after one session, several are recommended to achieve the best outcome. It is important to discuss your post-treatment care and what to avoid after a session during your initial consultation.
