Hair thinning can appear as increased shedding, a widening part, a receding hairline or gradual loss of density at the crown. The right treatment depends on what is causing it. At McLean & Potomac Dermatology, we begin with an evaluation of your scalp, your hair-loss pattern and your health history. If needed, your provider may recommend additional testing before discussing a plan.

Xvie XO is one option we may consider. It is a prepared topical concentrate containing growth factors, peptides and naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. It is applied to the scalp after microneedling and may be used on its own or alongside other hair-loss treatments.

What is Xvie XO?

Xvie XO is a prepared concentrate used in-office as part of scalp microneedling treatment. Unlike platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), it does not require a blood sample. Your provider applies it to the scalp after microneedling.

Xvie XO is not a medication and does not replace medical treatment when medication is appropriate. Your provider can explain whether it makes sense for your hair-loss pattern and how it could fit into a broader plan.

How Xvie XO is used with scalp microneedling

Scalp microneedling creates small channels in the skin. Xvie XO is applied to the scalp after the microneedling portion of the appointment. Your provider will explain what to expect and review aftercare.

Hair changes take time. If treatment helps, improvement is gradual and develops over the months that follow. We will discuss realistic expectations and when to reassess your progress.

Where Xvie XO fits in a hair-loss plan

Hair loss can have several causes, and more than one factor may be involved. Your provider will first evaluate your scalp and hair-loss pattern, then discuss appropriate options.

Depending on your needs, a plan may include Xvie XO, PRP, PRF, prescription or over-the-counter treatments, or other care. Xvie XO may appeal to patients who prefer not to have a blood sample drawn, or who are considering a topical concentrate alongside platelet therapy. Your provider can help determine whether combining treatments is appropriate.

Your Xvie XO treatment

Your visit begins with a discussion of your goals and a review of your hair-loss history. If Xvie XO is appropriate, the scalp is numbed before microneedling, and the concentrate is applied afterward. The full visit may take about an hour. Your scalp may look flushed for a day.

Xvie XO is generally planned as a series rather than a one-time treatment. The number and timing of visits depend on your scalp, the extent of thinning and the rest of your treatment plan. Your provider will review aftercare and schedule follow-up based on your needs.

Frequently asked questions

How is Xvie XO different from PRP or PRF for hair loss?

PRP and PRF are prepared from a small sample of your own blood. Xvie XO is a prepared topical concentrate, so no blood sample is needed. Your provider can discuss the differences and whether one option, or a combination, suits your plan.

How many Xvie XO treatments will I need?

Xvie XO is typically used as part of a series. The recommended number and spacing of treatments depend on your hair-loss pattern and overall plan. Your provider will discuss this at your consultation.

When might I notice a change?

Hair grows slowly, so any improvement takes time and may emerge over the months after treatment. Results vary, and your provider will help set expectations and determine when to reassess.

Is scalp microneedling uncomfortable?

A topical anesthetic is applied before treatment. Most patients tolerate scalp microneedling, though the experience can vary. Your provider can explain what to expect before your visit.

Can I use Xvie XO with other hair-loss treatments?

It may be possible to use Xvie XO alongside other treatments, but the right combination depends on the cause of your hair loss and your current regimen. Bring a list of medications and hair products to your consultation so your provider can review them.

Why do I need a consultation first?

Different types of hair loss can look similar but have different causes and treatments. An evaluation helps your provider decide whether Xvie XO is appropriate or whether another approach should come first.
